The eMotimo Spectrum ST4 is a motion control pan and tilt head. The Spectrum is an advanced 4-axis motion controller for cinematography and photography that is fast and accurate. Perfect for Pan/Tilt/Slide/Focus shots.

The eMotimo Spectrum ST4.3 is an upgraded version that adds a powered 7 pin expansion port control to power on control up to 3 Tilta Nucleus M motors, this this the highest axis count controller in its class. Product Shooter especially will appreciate the extra shot possibilities that incorporate Pan/Tilt/Slide/Focus/Zoom and and Turntable control.

Thoughts after 3.5 years of ownership

I bought the ST4 + FZ Pro and Dana dolly kit back in the last quarter of 2018. I have to say, this system has been incredibly reliable for me and continues to be.

I've used it on countless commercial shoots, live productions, as well as a few episodics. It was even used every week for a church production during the pandemic when we had a skeleton crew for 5 different camera angles, due to the "set it and forget it" nature of the product.

The only issue I've run into over the years was my initial kevlar drive belt for the Dana dolly was getting loose/overstretched, so it was suggested that I replace it with their steel belt. That solved that issue! I should mention that Brian and the team are very fast to reply to any inquiries and provide great support.

I've also used the ST4 with Dragonframe with success. It was incredibly easy to set up, and only took maybe 15 minutes to configure.

I've been so happy with the ST4 that I plan on upgrading it to the new ST4.3 soon so I can expand it's capabilities.

Thanks Emotimo for making a great product!

      Smooth and repeatable... fast

I shoot exclusively with an S1H with cine prime lenses. This rig when set up properly, gives buttery moves....fast. I have wheels on the dolly stands and just fill this rig around from set up to set up. I use v back batts hooked up to the side and power my wireless system off this pan tilt head... works like a charm and no cables in the way! More time being creative, less set up time, great moves

I have the same feeling I had after buying a jib.

So, I have a Red Gemini with about a 12lb payload and this feels like it is too much for the system. At the start and end keyframes there is always a bit of wobble, so those shots are not usable. On a few occasions during a tilt the camera took a nosedive. I would say it was because of the weight of the lens, but it was a probe lens which is actually pretty light. This is all while doing very gradual moves, using it at high speeds doesn't seem like an option. The other issue that I have with the system is with the focus module. No matter how tight you turn it, it will always unlock. I have used inexpensive follow focus systems that are more effective. When you do get the ST4 to work, minus the beginning and end shot. It is pretty neat. As far as the idea that you would use this as a one person shoot, that just isn't reasonable. You would want a second person there for sure to set up the system. At that point, there is no need for it to be automated because you could have a person on second camera. really wanted to like this product and use it in a way that would make some money but it is not the case. I would say if you are doing time lapse and have a mirrorless camera, or doing product shots in a studio with a mirrorless camera this could work. Otherwise, it doesn't seem like a practical setup for most scenarios in the field.

Tim, Thanks for the review. You reached out to us for support on the Fz locking and are waiting to see the video. Let us know as the Fz locks well with a hex wrench on the motor side.

For stability, it sounds like you aren't using the forward back adjustment plate to balance the system. - Check out https://support.emotimo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002940123-eMotimo-Spectrum-ST4-104-Camera-Mounting. If you send us some pictures of your setup through help@emotimo.com, we can offer some advice.

eMotimo and ST4 make complex moves easy to capture

I can only add to the great reviews that brought me to purchase the ST4 with a dolly integration kit. Beginning with patience in answering my questions to setup and my first keyframed motion control project, everything worked beautifully as I had hoped. The happy results inspire more exploration of adding movement to video imaging. I look forward to seeing how far the system will go.

Thanks John. We are glad you are enjoying the rig. Most customers buy the eMotimo ST4 for a single purpose . . .then they start playing and see what else is possible and how far they can push it. Glad you are on board and shooting! - Brian and the eMotimo folks.

Its the best motorized system out there. And I have tried many. Here is my story that shows that ...

No system is perfect but this is not far from perfection. I have tried Edelkrone, Rhino, Kessler, you name it. I've tried them . I needed a motorized 4 axis system that could handle my RED DSMC2 without to much of an issue and not break the bank. First I tried Edelkrone. Getting there toughest system and realised when in use that because of its slide out design the whole Edelkrone slider leans like an springboard (and no one talks about that ?)... Rhino looked cool with there latest system but it only support 2 keyframes . Kessler Cineslider slide was awesome and handle heavy duty up 80 lbs but there cinedrive system felt outdated. And so I heard about Emotimo . A system that could work on dolly, tripod and even my Cineslider ... and handle 15 lbs of weight ... Feel free to go take the long path and try all the systems out there but you eventually come to the same conclusion that I did . The Emotimo ST4 is the best system currently out there ...

Thanks Andreas! Many of our customers end up with us after shooting with other solutions. We set up really quick, have fewer wires, handle big payloads, and integrate to a ton of aftermarket tools and accessories. Glad you are one of our latest customers!
